New Generation 23 in Green Sunflower/Mixed Seed Feeder replacement parts:

Droll Yankees
This bird feeder brings in a remarkably diverse collection of birds especially woodpeckers. It doesn't need filling often, I think because of the density of the peanuts. The squirrels can't seem to extract the peanuts through the mesh and in my case, except one persistent squirrel, they seem to have given up. You've got to love this company. They really stand behind their products.

Excellent product! I’ve had this for several years – longer than I can remember. The squirrels have chewed on the metal more than I thought they would, but I am very impressed at the strength of the plastic. A few years ago a bear took a bite and cracked the plastic, but it was still very usable. Again two weeks ago a bear took the feeder down, added another crack, but must have been able to open the top and was able to empty the feeder. Well, about 2am this morning Mr. Bear came back. Must have had a little trouble opening the top this time. I watched him carry it a few hundred feet away before laying down with it. I could hear him repeatedly crunching into it. I retrieved the feeder when I woke up later this morning. It took three bear hits over the last several years to finally completely demolish it. I tried to attach a photo of the remains, but that apparently isn’t allowed. Very impressive product, which I will definitely be repurchasing.

      Hello Linda,
Thank you for contacting Droll Yankees. Having bears at your feeders can ultimately be dangerous if not addressed before the bears become accustomed to a regular meal. I would recommend reading this article to see if there is a way to help your particular issue. Some highlights from the article are:

Mount Feeders Properly: Bears will climb poles to reach feeders or may lean on poles to knock feeders down. A sturdy metal pole with the feeder 10-12 feet high is best to discourage bears, but the pole should be secure enough in the ground that it cannot be knocked over or easily uprooted.

Alternative Foods: Bears are most attracted to suet and seed feeders, but will also sip at leaking nectar feeders or tray feeders where fruit is offered. Instead of offering these treats to backyard birds, offer bitter-tasting safflower seed and plant natural sources of food such as seed-bearing flowers, berry-producing bushes or flowers for hummingbirds.

Eliminate Other Foods: Bears wandering into backyards for birdseed may find other easy foods that tempt them to stay. Remove outdoor pet foods, keep trash secure, tend compost piles properly to eliminate odors and speed decomposition, and keep barbecue grills clean so there are no other smells or foods that could lure bears.

Lights On: Install motion sensor-operated lights of the highest safe wattage aimed at the bird feeders. Bears will trigger the lights when they approach and will not like the disruption to their vision. Most bears will then head for darker areas away from the feeders where they feel more secure.

I’ve been using this feeder for many, many years. It is easy to fill using a Droll Yankee seed scoop. It is also fairly easy to clean. I have gone through several tubes because of squirrel damage, but recently, some critter finally managed to break one of the metal feeding ports! I came home one day to find the feeder hanging at an odd angle and discovered one of the bottom, metal feeding ports was broken and part of it was missing. The squirrels have chewed on them over the years but I can’t imagine how they finally manage to break one. All-in-all, this is a very good bird feeder.

Nice feeder. I bought it because of the metal parts. I can’t deter the squirrels but at least they can’t chew this one up. I might try upgrading to a squirrel proof feeder in the future. The first one I bought was plastic and they chewed it up anyway.
