The New Generation Sunflower feeders are for me , the sweet spot in all the sunflower feeders offered by Droll Yankees. Biggest improvement (if possible) of this feeder over A-6 is the very heavy base/seed deflector. I only wish this was offered in the larger tube as the B-7 series. It has been my experience that the larger tubes have reduced flow issues when seed eventually gets wet. This is one you will be able to hand down to your children.

I have had 2 of these feeders for over 15 years which stay up year-around in northern Minnesota. Squirrels try as they might, to wreak havoc on these feeders, to no avail! The metal (zinc I believe) feeder areas completely protect the opening of the plastic tube, so the squirrels can not destroy them. In my 15 years of ownership, there have been several squirrels that have tried and failed to do more damage than some chew marks on the paint which in no way impacts the structure and integrity of these feeders. The only damage (to one of the feeders) is when my son ran it over with the lawnmower. I now have 1 perch that is broken off, so it is a 5 feeder instead of a 6 perch feeder. The woodpeckers don’t mind the missing perch, but the smaller birds do. I have had all of the birds listed in the product description on this feeder. I have also had downy woodpecker, hairy woodpeckers, rosebellied woodpeckers, blue jays, cardinals, and just today (February 10th, 2019) a pileated woodpecker! This feeder is easy to take apart, clean and reassemble but does require a screwdriver. It keeps food clean and dry most of the time. The only problems I have really had were in very rainy times. Since my original purchases, I have accumulated several more of these feeders in smaller sizes on garage sales and auctions. Why you might ask? Because these things just never die! It is an expense up front, but worth it when you consider the cost to use ratios. At the current price $40 for 15 years use that is only $2.66/year, and I still have another decade or two of feeding to do in these I am sure!
