Placement to deter squirrels: The key to keeping a feeder squirrel-proof successful is the placement. Place a bird feeder 4 feet from the ground and 8 feet from anything a squirrel can jump from. For hanging from a pole by a hook it is recommended that the hook have at least a 16” distance from the pole. Placing a baffle on the pole or having a caged feeder will also help to ensure squirrel-proof success.

Feeding wild birds is one of the best ways to impact the world around you. The simple act of putting out a bird feeder and keeping it clean and full can greatly improve the chances that birds and their offspring will survive. Many backyard bird watchers believe that birds only benefit from feeders during certain times of the year. However, birds actually have a year-round need for reliable, steady food sources

Cleaning: Please! For the sake of the birds, keep your feeder clean! Dirty feeders spread disease. Soak all parts in a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water. Use a Droll Yankees Bird Feeder Brush to brush away grime inside the tube.

We used 2 of these for years. They worked very well to keep squirrels out, but a bear finally discovered them and demolished them!

Excellent quality and sturdiness from top to bottom. Anchoring system, foot poles and seed weight have held this feeder in place through 20-25 mph winds.

Within one week birds visiting this feeder include: House Finches, Chickadees, Titmice, Nuthatches, Gold Finches, Juncos, Cardinals, Downy WPs and BLUEBIRDS! Blue Jays and Mourning Doves are feeding below from spilled seed left on the ground.

Yes, as I’ve mixed dried meal worms with the seed, a pair of mated Bluebirds visits regularly. Be advised however, the meal worms do NOT slide through the seed ports and instead clog the port openings. This is expected as the feeder’s design is for seed. It is not an issue to simply unclog the port openings with your finger or a wire once every couple of days. If the seed ports were just a half inch bigger, there would be no such issue.

IT IS ABSOLUTELY SQUIRREL PROOF when ground mount! This feeder has had a number of pole climbing squirrels get frustrated as they cannot climb up and around the bottom seed tray of the feeder.

My only criticism is that it is difficult for birds to land onto this feeder’s seed tray. It is a relatively slippery and smooth clear plastic that birds cannot easily grip onto when attempting to land. This condition becomes worse when the seed tray is wet. Multiple birds instead simply land onto the seed and sit in the seed trough while feeding. The birds are learning how to master the landing on the plastic itself, but I’ve seen many flutter aimlessly to no avail whenever they attempt to get a foot hold. A method of roughening the seed tray surface or adding a rubber grip tape strip for easier bird landing success would have given this feeder a 5 star rating.

A one day attempt was made to add an additional tube feeder to the top of the Jagunda as described by the company. Functionality was good, but sturdiness was diminished. Also, my personal opinion, the aesthetics of the tube feeder on top is not preferred. The tube feeder was removed and is awaiting installation elsewhere in the yard on a separate DY pole system.

Just ordered the jagunda on a service call about a tube feeder. Have had droll yankee feeders for many years and occasionally need repair. No problem with droll yankee. These folks take care of their customers!

This is the best squirrel proof bird feeder I’ve owned. I’ve had mine about 5 years.

I’ve had one of these feeders for years. It’s great. Easy to assemble, fill and clean. Squirrels have beaten. Most of other squirrel proof feeders but not this one. Worth the expense.
