The Classic Oriole Feeder is the first bottle oriole feeder from Droll Yankees. This vibrant orange feeder features 3 nectar ports and perches, inspired by the base of the Ruby Sipper. Orioles can comfortably feed on the 3 curved perches. The 3 bee guard nectar ports block out insects and save nectar for orioles. The attractive spiral glass bottle holds 16 oz. of nectar, and easily unscrews from the base for easy cleaning and filling. The flush vessel top sits flat, making the feeder easy to fill. The top and base are UV-stabilized so they won’t fade with age. The hanger is both weather-resistant and rust-proof. The nectar recipe is engraved right on the feeder as a reminder for the perfect mixture every time.

I boughy two of the Classic Oriole Feeder, I was looking for the hummingbird feeder and the sales perdon directed me to these. The hummingbirds are interested but don’t really feed. Did I make a mistake in this purchase?

    • Droll Yankees

      Hi Linda,

Thank you for contacting Droll Yankees. We are sorry to hear the hummingbirds aren’t feeding from your new feeder! Although hummingbirds will feed from oriole feeders, we would recommend one of our hummingbird feeders instead.
      We hope this information helps!

I too find the nectar level in the bowl appears to be too low.
It’s about 3/4 to 1 inch below feeder ports.
On speaking to an agent, I was re assured it was normal.
I only purchased the feeder yesterday, so I’m unable to say it’s ok ( or not)
Any comments or feedback would be most welcome.
Unit appears to be well made and sturdy. Time will tell how it weathers.

I just received my Oriole feeder and I have to say it is beautifully constructed, however after reading the reviews I can see two issues. 1) The fill level does seem to be low, 2) The insect guards might be too restrictive.
It’s early spring with few bugs about, so I’m going to remove the guards in hopes of easier access when first time Oriole users try the new feeder. I’m sure once they are use to the new addition, nothing will stop their thirst for nectar and I can replace the guards. Thanks to all the people at Droll Yankees for all you do for birds.

At this point, I can only give a one star for robust construction. Unfortunately, this feeder doesn’t fill completely as a previous post states. The Orioles land and attempt to eat, but leave after trying and land on our hummingbird feeder to no avail. I believe this feeder as two issues the first being the low fill level and the second the plastics flaps seem restrictive. Too bad as it is a solid unit. We wanted this solely for Orioles but I would search around for one without these issues. Obviously this is just our opinion.

I am thrilled with this oriole nectar feeder! I bought an oriole nectar feeder from another company, and it was a disaster – the ports allowed insects in, and I had lots of bees and flies dying. 🙁 The Droll Yankees is designed to keep insects out, and it is beautiful. Thank you!

The feeder arrived in perfect condition. The feeder is attractive, sturdy, and very well made. The steel hanger stays in an upright position making the feeder easy to hang. The perches are made of steel, not flimsy plastic. The bee guard feeding ports are designed in such a way that I have not seen any bees/hornets/wasps at the feeder. (That feature alone is a huge bonus!) Although this is an oriole feeder, I was pleasantly surprised to find that hummingbirds are able to easily use this feeder too. (Another bonus!) I prefer a larger diameter bottle opening to aid in cleaning, but this opening is large enough and cleans up very easily using a bottle brush. Don’t hesitate to buy this feeder, it’s sturdy and beautifully designed.

I just received my oriole feeder as a product sample. I’m just getting back into bird feeding after years of not feeding the birds. I really got the bug after getting plants that attracted hummingbirds last summer and adding a hummingbird feeder this year. I see hummingbirds everyday now. I will be putting the oriole feeder out next spring and look forward to seeing them for the first time. Thanks so much.

Looks well made…I have not used it yet as orioles are not in my area yet. i will put it out in March/April

It took a couple of weeks for the hummers to try the new feeder out, but once they did, they have been feeding from it regularly. They have even shared it briefly (very briefly)! It’s a sturdy feeder that is easy to clean and fill, and I think it will hold up for several seasons in our hot, southern sun!

Receive my classic oriole feeder ( C-30B) after other oriole feeders I’ve had in the past failed to attract more than a passing Baltimore Oriole. Needless to say when I received it the product itself is so well constructed and put together in terms of comfort for the bird and ability to get to their food source which in this case is nectar quickly! The first day I put it up I didn’t have any but the second you would’ve thought that there was a dinner bell ringing somewhere for the 4 Baltimore orioles that showed up! I would as always recommend sticking with Droll Yankee Products- like this one , never fail to delight me( or my birds☺️) or skimp on product quality !

Needed to shake a lot to have it fill bottom. Holes for feeding do not work well. Humming birds preferred a different feeder

    • Droll Yankees

      Hi Stephen,
Thank you for contacting Droll Yankees. We are sorry to hear you are having a hard time attracting birds to your feeder. Although hummingbirds will feed from oriole feeders, they are more attracted to red and purple feeders because these are the colors of flowers that hummingbirds often pollinate. This feeder is better suited to attract orioles because of the larger perching space, the wide ports accommodate orioles’ beaks, and the orange color is commonly used to attract orioles.
We would like the opportunity to directly talk to you about your situation regarding the ports and the need to shake the feeder. Please call our Customer Service Department at 1-800-352-9164 and any one of our Customer Service Reps will be happy to assist you. Our hours are 7 am – 4:30 pm Mon-Fri (EST). Thank you for flying with our flock!

I received this through a product sample. This is well made feeder, I have it hanging on a tree branch. The glass will be easy to clean. Looking forward to seeing the orioles use it next spring. I did see hummingbirds drinking from it.
