I purchased in pet stores several feeders with your note inside — BUT they were different and have plastic bee (and squirrel) protection.
Why are you not advertising on your web site such outstanding hummingbird feeders? It looks that your web-site might be out-of-date…

    • Droll Yankees

      Hi Boris,
Thank you for contacting Droll Yankees. It sounds like you may have this confused with a different item or brand. Unfortunately, none of our hummingbird feeders are squirrel-proof.
      We hope this information helps!

My wife bought me this feeder for Christmas. The squirrels
Drink all the liquid from feeder. They clean it out within hours of filling it. Is there anything I can do to prevent this.

    • Droll Yankees

      Hello John,
Thank you for contacting Droll Yankees. Squirrels are so clever and relentless and it seems sometimes that they’re smarter than most other animals. One of the biggest challenges to feeding wild birds—our own challenge too—is deterring squirrels. We work on a daily basis to create quality products and cultivate good advice that will help us all win this fight.

The key to successfully keeping a feeder squirrel-proof is its placement. Squirrels are agile and are able to jump up to 8ft horizontally and 4ft vertically. For this reason, we recommend that feeders be placed 8ft away from any structures that they can climb on so that they do not reach across to access the feeding holes. It can be helpful to trim back and prune any nearby bushes or branches within 12ft of a feeder. We also recommend that feeders be placed higher than 4ft off the ground, preventing the squirrels from jumping and grabbing onto the bottom. If you are using a hook or pole, we recommend that the hook have at least a 16in distance from the pole. Placing a baffle on the pole will also help to ensure squirrel-proofing success.

Feeder is nice and sturdy, but the hummers are not feeding from it. I tried adding a little red coloring to my nectar and that has not helped. The hummers come up and look at it and they go to backyard and feed off that one. I have tried moving the new feeder to back and trade off but no luck with this new feeder. Any suggestions?

    • Droll Yankees

      Hello Lupe,
Thank you for contacting Droll Yankees. We are very sorry that you haven’t seen hummingbirds on your nectar feeder. Birds are creatures of habit, and it can take them days or even weeks to use a new hummingbird feeder. There is something new in the yard that they are not used to, and they need to warm up to it first.

Make sure you are regularly cleaning your hummingbird feeder. Hummingbirds often avoid feeders that have rancid nectar. We recommend disinfecting your nectar feeders with a 50/50 solution of hot water and white vinegar every three to five days. Increase cleaning frequency if you notice your nectar has become cloudy.

Hummingbirds have a notorious affinity for the color red. That’s why red is used so predominantly on hummingbird feeders. Tying a red ribbon on your feeder that will move in the wind is one way to get their attention.

Another way is to position your feeder within inches of a hanging plant that is attractive to hummers, such as fuchsia, where they’ll practically trip over the feeder. Once the hummers recognize the feeder as a food source, you can place it almost anywhere. Hummers are attracted by a wide variety of flowers. Some favorites are: American columbine, bee balm, bugleweed, butterfly milkweed, choral bean, coralberry, fuchsia, hibiscus, hollyhock, larkspur, lemon bottlebrush, mimosa tree, evening primrose, red buckeye, red impatiens, red salvia, sage tiger lily, trumpet honeysuckle, trumpet vine, weigela, and zinnia.

We would suggest temporarily removing other hummingbird feeders in the area so that the hummingbirds will be encouraged to use the new one. We hope that the hummingbirds begin to use the feeder soon, and please keep us updated! If you have any additional questions or concerns, please call our Customer Service Department at 1-800-352-9164 and any one of our Customer Service Reps will be happy to assist you. Our hours are 7 am – 4:30 pm Mon-Fri (EST). Thank you for flying with our flock!

This is by far the BEST hummingbird feeder! I have purchased many feeders and this one can be totally taken apart and cleaned properly. We definitely want to keep our hummingbirds healthy and well fed. Thank you!

Love the new hummingbird feeder! It is certainly easy to clean and to fill, but the best feature is that the top and bottom are flat, making it simple to set the feeder down before hanging it up! Our birds love it !

This hummingbird feeder is well made and the birds seem to like it. The bottle holds more than I need because I have only 1 family each summer, however, it’s easy not to fill up the bottle so the nectar isn’t wasted. I’ve had mine for a few weeks, so I don’t know about the claim that the plastic parts won’t fade in the sun. If that proves to be true, then that will be a worthwhile aspect of this product.

This humming bird feeder is the best. Within minutes of hanging it up, I had humming birds come feed at it. The handle for hanging is very sturdy, and I love how the flower decorations for the feeding holes are part of the base itself. No more will the squirrels be able to pop off the flowers and spill all the liquid. A very fine quality feeder, I would recommend to anyone who is looking for one.

I just recently received this feeder. It is very well made. It is east to fill and clean and it looks so nice. The hummingbirds came to it almost immediately after hanging. It’s the best hummingbird feeder that I’ve ever owned.

Very nice looking feeder, easy fill and our little friends found it immediately! It is accompanied by another Droll feeder on our back porch. Very easy to clean also. Thank you!!

Leave it to Droll Yankees to make the best bottle feeder available! I received this feeder yesterday I inspected it and saw that it is of very high quality and exceptional design, from the attractive glass bottle to the removable top hanger to the high quality feeding tray. After washing the feeder, which is easy to do, because of the easy disassembly and reassembly, I filled the feeder and hung it on my porch along with my other feeders. This is when the real test began because no matter how much I like a hummingbird feeder the ultimate decision is made by the dozens of hummingbirds that I feed. This feeder passed the hummingbird test with flying colors! Within 2 minutes the hummingbirds had began moving from my other feeders to the new Droll Yankees feeder and emptied it within a few hours.

Droll Yankees’ take on the classic “bottle” feeder is very attractive! All five parts (glass bottle, acrylic dish, top, bottle cap and metal hanger) disassemble for easy cleaning. Filling is simple and appears to be leak-free. The glass bottle holds a generous 16oz with the traditional nectar recipe printed on the dish’s bottom in case you forget! It looks great in the garden amongst the flowers and other feeders! Best of all, my hummingbirds found and took to the feeder immediately! Very pleased although time will tell how well it holds up. Definitely recommend and will considering purchasing another to replace my existing feeders!
